Still haven't quite got over how amazing that day on St Kilda was! St Kilda lies around 40 miles west of the other Outer Hebrides and the main island Hirta was inhabited for millenia, the locals developing a unique way of life. They did keep sheep and grew some crops, but they mostly lived on eggs and seabirds. Often that was gannets or fulmars but yes, it also included puffins... Well, camping on the incredible St Kilda didn't quite go to plan. We made it out there, but our skipper advised us that the weather was going to be turning for the worst and if we didn't get the boat back the same day, we'd likely be stuck there until Monday! We didn't have nearly enough food for that and I didn't fancy climbing down the cliffs to catch seabirds or collect eggs like the islanders did...not sure the National Trust for Scotland rangers would be happy about that either!
