Coffee is a liquid and gets the caffeine absorbed by your body quicker than just swallowing a pill which contains caffeine as well as lots of fillers (or in the case of crappy diet pills caffeine, lots of fillers and other crap that you won't want in your body anyway).

Think about who would use large amounts of caffeine (say for sporting supplements) and you'll be on the right path. Caffeine has been a common adulterant in pills for as long as I've been taking them.... and I'm not young by anyone's standards....

Caffeine is contained within many legal products but in this case they would be using it two-fold, as a cutting agent, and one that also gives a mild stimulant effect.
