What is See the Sound: Visual Phonics? It is a tool. Who can benefit? Students that read below grade level in regular education settings or in special service programs. Children in early education programs or "at risk readers." Special education students and students with disabilities.
What is Visual Phonics? Develops skills in using lip-patterns to “sound out” letter/words with a visual cue for support. Is it working? Some children still prefer using visual memory of whole words to read/write.
Visual Phonics is a helpful tool for supplementing existing phonics and phonological awareness instruction for DHH students. The advantages of using Visual Phonics focus on the accessibility to the whole population, ease of implementation among deaf education settings, and how it addresses specific literacy goals.
