Add an ideal RIAA curve to the source (there're many ways to do that) and the preamp's output should be a flat curve. The simulated noise performance of this circuit is a little bit worse than with a 'datasheet ideal' NE5534A instead.

May 26, 2015 · If you were to replace any trans, for a novice, I would recommend replacing one tranny at a time in an amp or preamp section. Then power it up and listen to a soft song with percussion, note any differences or if something stopped working. If successful, proceed replacing the adjacent tranny on opposite side of circuit, and play the same song.

Brought my vintage turntable home today and hooked up the cheap Audio Technica AT91 to my testbed-preamps with some cat.7+ cable. Shielding was basically non-existent though, since the preamp is not encased in any way, which resulted in most of the noise being 50Hz mains and something around 16kHz and 18kHz coming from the computer itself.
