Elden Ring has a focus in action combat that BG3 lacks, while BG3 has a focus on roleplaying/dialogue that Elden Ring does not have, but there are places where comparisons can yield interesting conclusions.

In the end, i think it's better to just call these kind of games Souls likes and we have a solid case. Subgenres that found a tag outside W/C/JRPG discussions had the advantage of being a lot more clear on their purpose.
